Born in Haregaon, Maharashtra on 25th Dec 1932 Jog was very fond of music from his childhood. He took lessons in classical vocal music from Pt. Gajananrao Joshi and Pt. Narayanrao Marulkar for 5-6 years. His elder brother Shri Vamanrao Jog(Ex Staff Violinist of Akashvani Indore)used to conduct violin tuitions at their home, Jog would always hang around at his musical classes and used to enjoy listening to him playing violin. Around same time a programme by Shridhar Palshikar used to be aired on Radio. His music inspired Jog into learning the instrument and started taking lessons in Violin from his brother. Soon Violin became inseparable part of his life. From school days itself he started accompanying the popular singers Babanrao Navdikar, Gajananrao Watwe, Malti Pande, Rohinitai Bhate and others. Because of unexpected death of his father when he was just 12, he had to face 'earn and learn' situation. Violin then as now was perennial sidekick. That is when he started performing Violin in shows. He once performed in the annual gathering of his college in the year 1950-51, his concert was a great hit and ran to a packed house. Late Sudhirji Phadke heard his playing and sent a message for Shri Prabhkar Jog, praising his performance and was so impressed by Jog’s rendering, offered him to join his Orchestra and that was really a turning point in Prabhakar Jog’s career.

Prabhakar Jog got his first break as a violinist for a marathi film 'Shri Gurudevdatta' for which songs were composed by Mr. Snehal Bhatkar. Mr. Jog acquired mastery in writing notations, a language in which music is written understood and played. His perfection in writing notations earned him the post of assistant Music director to Mr. Sudhir Phadke . He played an integral part in the creation of 'Geet Ramayana' series with Mr. Sudhir Phadke. 'Geet Ramayana', written by Mr. G.D. Madgulkar and music composed by Mr. Phadke was a prestigious milestone of Akashwani Pune Kendra. Jog was not only a violinist but also a full fledged Assistant music composer, arranger in this immensely popular series of songs among listeners. Jog independently composed three songs of this series, sung by Sudhir Phadke and Chandrakant Gokhale. He also composed music pieces for more than 40 songs in this series. He accompanied Mr. Phadke for around 500 live stage shows of ‘Geet Ramayana’. He assisted legendary music directors in marathi Film industry Shrinivas Khale, Vasant Pawar, Ram Kadam and Vasant Prabhu, Yashwant Deo,Pt. Hridayanath Mangeshkar, Dashrath Pujari.

However,his talent as a composer was honed by Mr. Sudhir Phadke. Soon he started composing songs independently for All India Radio,Pune. His first song as a Music director 'Lapvilpas Tu Hirva Chafa' was broadcasted on Aakashwani Pune sung by his wife Late Neela Jog is one of the most popular Marathi songs.

This song was later recorded by Late Malati Pande in the year 1955-56. His first film as a composer was ‘Jawai Maza Bhala’ and later he went on to compose music for 22 Marathi films out of which 12-15 were hits. Many noted singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosale, Suresh Wadkar, Suman Kalyanpur, Sudhir Phadke have sung under his music direction. He has received the ‘Swami Haridas’ and ‘Saraswati Awards’ instituted by Soor Singer Sansad three times. Recently he was honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Trophy by Dadasaheb Phalke Academy.

His excellence as violinist soon got noticed by Hindi Film Industry (Bollywood) and so Jog shifted to Mumbai in 1962. Jog started working with all the contemporary renowned music directors Madanmohan, S.D. Burman, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Shankar-Jaikishan, O.P.Nayyar, Usha Khanna, Khayyam, Ravindra Jain, Jaidev and also with new generation of music directors like Nadeem-Shravan and Annu Malik. He has played as a song violinist for more than 85 Music directors. During his 35 years of stay in Mumbai he represented the Committee of Cine Music Directors Association and was President of Cine Musicians Association for 3 and half years. Lately Mr. Jog has started presenting stage programmes. One of them titled as 'Swar Ale Duruni' consists of Vocal rendition of melodious songs from Marathi films, Bhavgeetas, Devotional songs for which he has composed music. The other two are 'Ganare Violin' and 'Gata Rahe Mera Violin' in which he plays several Marathi and Hindi popular songs on Violin. He has performed more than 80 solo programmes of 'Ganare Violin' in India and Dubai.

He has 12 albums to his credits so far, which are very popular not only in India but overseas as well. At present Jog resides in Pune giving invaluable guidance to budding singers and instrument players. He was judge in popular musical show Zee Marathi SaReGaMaPa. His sons and grandchildren are carrying forward his great legacy in music. Son Milind Jog plays Guitar. Grandson Amey Jog is a singer, recordist and Music arranger. One of the two granddaughters Deepika Jog is a singer, she stood 7th in Marathi singing competition SaReGaMaPa and Darshana Jog is Synthesizer player and Music arranger.
